Naples is an ancient city that was the capital of two kingdoms (the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and the Kingdom of Naples) for several hundreds of years. It can seem quite rundown and disorganised, which calls for flexibility and sometimes a sense of adventure. These characteristics certainly aren’t shortcomings, however. Naples has its own charm, and its shabbiness has a certain romantic quality. Our passionate local Neapolitan Azzurra has shared five romantic dinner spots in her fascinating hometown.

1. Da Caliendo

Tucked down a small street, Da Caliendo is a charming little restaurant with a terrace overlooking the Gulf of Pozzuoli. It deliberately has just a few tables to create an intimate feeling and ensure personalised service. The food is very tasty, and unpretentious yet original. Be sure to book ahead, especially in summer!

2. Da Cicciotto

Da Cicciotto is without a doubt one of the most loved restaurants among locals. It has everything you could possibly want in Naples: a picturesque seaside location away from the city bustle, top-quality food and kind and competent staff. The prices are above average, but it’s money that you won’t regret spending. If you’re a fan of seafood, you must try their raw seafood platter!

3. Il Comandante

This restaurant is located on the 10th floor of Hotel Romeo. While dining here, you can enjoy an amazing panorama of Naples and the Gulf. The food is truly unique and refined, plus the prices are very reasonable for a Michelin-starred restaurant. It’s only open for dinner and it’s closed on Tuesdays. Note that the dress code is smart casual, so no flip-flops!

4. Lido Turistico

During the day, Lido Turistico feels like a laidback beach club, but in the afternoon it transforms into a popular nightclub. The sand under your feet and the sea only metres away make it a magical place for a date. Come here for an aperitif or for a cocktail and a little dancing in the evening.

5. Palazzo Petrucci

In the stables of a historic building in the heart of the city, you’ll find one of the most prestigious restaurants in Naples – Palazzo Petrucci. This Michelin-starred restaurant is where the old meets the new, creating a unique alliance in the world of outstanding food. The atmosphere is elegant yet cosy, and you can see your meal being prepared right in front of your eyes thanks to the open kitchen.
