Despite it being a cemetery and one full of respected great Danes such as Hans Christian Andersen, Søren Kierkegaard and Niels Bohr, Assistens is not the reverent and sombre place you might expect it to be, so pick any sunny afternoon and you'll find plenty of locals hanging out and enjoying this alternative little slice of heaven.

Slap bang in the middle of vibrant and noisy Nørrebro, this peaceful cemetery is filled with secluded corners where you can chill out with a book, steal a romantic kiss or grill on a grave over a few beers with friends.
If you've got skeletons in your cupboard, this calm and cathartic oasis might well be the place to unload them.
