Christiania is one of the most popular and definitely the most interesting attractions in Copenhagen. It was founded in 1971 on the former military base by a group of freethinkers. Christiania is a social experiment of environmentally friendly and alternative lifestyle.
Today, Christiania is a refreshing green spot in the middle of a busy city. Small local workshops, cafes and organic restaurants attract visitors and offer all sorts of experiences. The self-governing and autonomous community has roughly 1000 inhabitants.
There are guided tours given by local people, starting from the main entrance at 15:00 daily in summer and on the weekends in rest of the year.
