It’s no secret that Rome is home to innumerable churches, however this one is particularly special as there are several masterpieces hidden within. When strolling near the Pantheon and Piazza Navona, it’s worth visiting this church to admire artworks by Caravaggio...for free!
San Luigi dei Francesi is famous for its three paintings by Caravaggio dedicated to Saint Matthew, as well as for its frescoes by Domenichino. This big church (it has three naves and five chapels) is the national church of Rome’s French community, hence the name “Saint Louis of the French”.
It costs €1 to light up the masterpieces.
