With its sky-blue walls and a crown of golden domes, Saint Michaels is one of the loveliest sights in Kyiv, facing Saint Sophia across a broad open square. Levelled by the Soviets in the 1930s and painstakingly rebuilt after independence, it now carries deep meaning for Ukrainians. The courtyard and bell tower are free to enter. Climb the tower for a rooftop view, and time your visit for late afternoon when the domes catch the sun.
