The Asansor is a historic elevator built in 1907 to connect the lower Karatas neighbourhood with the streets on the cliff above, saving residents a steep climb. Restored and still working, it carries visitors up to a terrace and cafe with panoramic views over the city and the Gulf of Izmir, especially fine at sunset. The picturesque street leading to it, named after the singer Dario Moreno, adds to the charm of this quirky and historic landmark.
