The clan jetties are a unique cluster of waterfront settlements on Weld Quay, where Chinese immigrant families built wooden houses on stilts over the sea, each jetty belonging to a different clan. The best known, Chew Jetty, welcomes visitors to stroll its boardwalks past traditional homes, temples and stalls. A living heritage site and part of the UNESCO listing, the jetties offer a fascinating glimpse of the maritime immigrant history of George Town.
