The Adelaide Botanic Garden, on the edge of the CBD beside North Terrace, is a beautiful 19th-century oasis of lawns, lakes, avenues and glasshouses, including the historic Palm House and the giant Amazon Waterlily Pavilion. Free to enter, it is a tranquil retreat and a place to see plants from around the world. A short walk from the city centre, the gardens are a favourite spot for a stroll, a picnic or a quiet escape from the bustle.
