The Konzil, a large lakeside building by the harbour, dates from around 1388 and is famous as the place where a papal conclave elected Pope Martin V during the Council of Constance, the only papal election ever held in Germany. Today it serves as an events and concert venue, its historic hall and lakeside setting recalling the citys moment at the centre of European history. The imposing building is a prominent and evocative landmark on the Konstanz waterfront.
