Photo: Wikimedia CommonsNew Road, or Naya Sadak, is Kathmandus modern shopping spine, lined with jewellers, electronics dealers, bookshops and the landmark Bishal Bazar, the citys first covered shopping mall. Rebuilt after the 1934 earthquake, it is where locals come for gold, watches, camera gear and branded goods. It is busier and glossier than the old bazaars nearby. Stroll down for people-watching and a proper pastry at one of the old-school bakeries around the Pipal Bot tree.
