The classic day trip out of Semarang: a private run across Central Java to the UNESCO-listed Borobudur, the island's greatest Buddhist monument.
Around eight hours door to door, with roughly 2.5 hours by car each way and about an hour guided at the temple before the return to the harbour.
Local tip: Meet at the Tanjung Emas port car park. Bring a hat and sun cover; the temple terraces are fully exposed.
