Founded in 1889 and housed in a group of Hawaiian stone buildings in the Kalihi district of Honolulu, the Bishop Museum holds the largest collection of Polynesian cultural artefacts and natural history specimens in the world. General admission covers Hawaiian Hall, whose three galleried floors trace the islands' gods, chiefly society and daily life, and the adjoining Pacific Hall, which places Hawaii within the wider settlement of Oceania. The Science Adventure Center houses a walk-through volcano and exhibits on island geology, while the planetarium lobby is also open to ticket holders. Guided talks in Hawaiian Hall run in the morning subject to availability. Planetarium shows carry a small additional charge, and on-site parking is payable for non-members.
