Villa Varosh is a small family-run guesthouse tucked into the Varosh quarter of Ohrid's Old Town, and it is the highest-rated place to stay in the city with real review volume behind it – 4.9 on Google across more than two hundred reviews, plus a TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice badge. The house was remodelled in 2019, so the rooms are modern behind a traditional Old Town frontage.
The position is the reason to book. The Ancient Theatre and the Plaosnik archaeological site are both an easy walk uphill, and the lakefront is a few minutes downhill, so you can do the whole UNESCO core on foot from the door.
Local tip: The owners publish their own guide to eating and drinking in Ohrid and keep it current – ask them where they are eating this week.
