Pasticceria Pirona has been baking in the Barriera Vecchia district since the late nineteenth century and was a regular stop for James Joyce during his years living in Trieste.
It holds 4.5 on Google across more than 300 reviews, and the strudel and other Central European pastries on the counter haven’t strayed far from the original recipes.
Local tip: It’s a short walk from the centre, so worth combining with a wander through the surrounding streets rather than a special trip.
