The Museo Memorial de la Resistencia Dominicana is a nonprofit museum dedicated to the victims of the Trujillo dictatorship, holding more than 160,000 files, photographs and objects and running education programmes on human rights and democracy. UNESCO listed its archive under the Memory of the World programme in 2009.
It is a heavier stop than most on a Zona Colonial walk, but a necessary one for understanding twentieth-century Dominican history.
Local tip: Set aside more time than you'd expect – the archive is denser than the building's size suggests.
