Museum of Wine-Making named after Khovrenko

★ 4.1

The Khovrenko Museum of Winemaking occupies a late-19th-century building and doubles as Samarkand's answer to a wine bar: a tasting room pouring nine or ten Uzbek wines alongside cognac and liqueur, served with local cheese and crackers. The wines draw on grapes grown regionally as well as stock historically sourced from Georgia, Azerbaijan and France.

It makes a good early-evening stop before dinner, since tastings run through the afternoon rather than late into the night.

Local tip: This sits closer to a museum-tasting-room hybrid than a bar, so don't expect a late-night atmosphere.
