Kotaravintola Sarakka serves dinner inside a traditional kota, the cone-shaped timber shelter Sámi reindeer herders have used for generations, with a fire at the centre and a menu of reindeer, fish and local berries rather than a conventional dining room setup.
It's a genuinely different way to eat compared with the sit-down restaurants in the villages – expect a set, fireside menu rather than an à la carte one, and a more intimate, communal feel.
Local tip: It's a small operation with limited seating, so this is very much a book-ahead rather than a walk-in dinner.

Fancy your reindeer supper with a side of fell views? This guided snowshoe climbs to the 500m summit of Kellostapuli, then stops at the Ylläs Nature Centre for a tasting of four different locally smoked fish.
