Piazza Cavour

Piazza Cavour is Como's front room – a wide, open square right on the lake where the passenger ferries dock, cafes spill out onto the water, and locals cut through on their way to everywhere else. It's free, always busy and the natural starting point for any walk around the old town.

Local tip: Come back in the evening – the square empties of day-trippers and fills with locals for the passeggiata instead.
