KAFFeFAIR

Vestby

Why it matters: KAFFeFAIR opened on 7 February 2006 in an old household kitchen on Dannebrogsgade as an EU social-fund project by Fokus Folkeoplysning, aimed at young people facing more than just unemployment – and it went on to become one of the first Danish businesses to formally carry the socialokonomisk virksomhed (social-economy company) title. Young people with special needs train here on a Danish STU programme, running the floor and kitchen and earning real-competence certificates through Open College Network. Since autumn 2017 it has filled 1,000 square metres of Strandvejen 19, a former C.W. Obel tobacco factory in Vestby, serving organic food from local suppliers. Come at lunch when the MADbar opens at 11:00, and remember the kitchen shuts at 15:00 – service is part of someone learning the job, so let it be unhurried.
