Espoo’s largest lake and a favourite local escape into nature, ringed by lush forest just a short hop from Helsinki. In summer the clear blue water is made for swimming, kayaking and fishing — the supervised Oittaa beach has changing rooms, showers and a beach-volley court — while the surrounding trails are great for walking and cycling. In winter, ice-swimmers brave a hole in the frozen surface before thawing out in Oittaa’s old stone-barn sauna. (Trivia buffs may know the lake from Finland’s famous unsolved 1960 mystery, but today it’s all about the outdoors.)
