The royal palace of Palma, standing right beside the cathedral on the site of a former Moorish alcazar — a fortress-palace whose Islamic bones were reworked into a Gothic royal residence for the medieval kings of Mallorca. Still an official royal residence for ceremonies, it’s open to visitors: grand halls, Gothic chapels, tapestries and Arab-influenced courtyards, with lovely views over the harbour. A rewarding pairing with La Seu next door.
