Donguri Republic is the official Studio Ghibli store — a small, joy-filled shop that is a place of pilgrimage for anyone who has ever loved Totoro, Kiki or Spirited Away. Its Hong Kong branch, tucked inside Times Square in Causeway Bay, is crammed floor to ceiling with beautifully made Ghibli merchandise you simply will not find on the average high street.
Expect plush Totoros in every size, No-Face everything, soot-sprite trinkets, tableware, stationery, apparel and endless collectible figures, all styled with that unmistakable Ghibli warmth. Even non-collectors tend to walk out with something — it is as much a mini exhibition of the studio's world as a shop.
Local tip: It is compact and gets busy, so go off-peak if you want to browse in peace. It is great for gifts — the smaller charms and stationery travel well — and keep an eye out for seasonal and film-specific limited editions.
