Photo: Wikimedia CommonsAl-Muizz Street runs like an open-air museum through the heart of medieval Islamic Cairo, lined with some of the finest Fatimid, Mamluk and Ottoman mosques, madrasas and merchant houses anywhere in the Muslim world. Pedestrianised and beautifully lit at night, it is a joy to wander. Go in the late afternoon as the light softens, step inside a couple of the mosques, and end near the Khan el-Khalili bazaar for a mint tea.
