The Schildergasse is one of the busiest shopping streets in Europe, a broad pedestrian run through the centre of Cologne lined with department stores, high-street brands and the striking Weltstadthaus with its curved glass facade. It is the place for a rainy-day browse. Start near the cathedral and walk west, dip into the side streets for smaller shops, and admire the architecture along the way.
