Panjiayuan is Beijing’s largest and most famous flea and antiques market, a sprawling weekend institution in the south-east of the city. Hundreds of stalls sell calligraphy and paintings, ceramics, jade, Cultural Revolution memorabilia, furniture, beads and curios of every kind. Bustling and endlessly browsable, it is as much an experience as a shopping trip, and a favourite hunting ground for collectors, decorators and souvenir-seekers willing to haggle for a bargain.
