Entoto Beth Artisan is a social enterprise and certified member of the World Fair Trade Organization, founded by Bethlehem Birhane to create paid manufacturing work for women from disadvantaged backgrounds in Addis Ababa. Alongside employment it provides technical training and counselling intended to move participants into secure work in Ethiopia’s craft and light manufacturing sector. The workshops produce handmade jewellery, bags, clothing and home pieces including metalwork and decorative objects, much of it sold through international fair trade retailers as well as directly in Addis Ababa. Visitors can buy from the showroom on Cape Verde Street; a second retail outlet operates on Menelik II Avenue. Card acceptance is not guaranteed, so carrying birr is advisable.
