Blijburg aan Zee (Permanently Closed)

Blijburg aan Zee was an artificial city beach and beach bar established in 2003 on Amsterdam's IJburg peninsula, created on a sandbank as part of the new district's development. It relocated twice as building work progressed, in 2006 and again in 2010, each time keeping the same format of beach bar, restaurant, DJ evenings, a covered event space called The Salon and a wedding venue called The Chapel. It closed permanently at the end of the 2018 season. The Pampuslaan site it last occupied was taken over by the restaurant Haas and Popi from December 2018, which has itself since closed, and no business now trades under the Blijburg name. The wider Strand IJburg public beach does continue to operate each summer under municipal programming, with the VrIJland community pavilion on Pampuslaan providing food, drink, workshops and events. Strand IJburg is reached by tram to IJburg or by bus routes serving Pampuslaan, and opens seasonally from spring to autumn depending on weather.
