Astron is a cult Athens techno club — a tiny, sign-less box on Konstantinoupoleos in the gritty Gazi/Votanikos fringe that locals affectionately call exactly that: 'the box'. There is no name over the door; you find it by the thud of the music rattling the windows. Come the small hours it becomes one of the city's most beloved underground dancefloors.
It is dark, sweaty, intimate and gloriously unpretentious — a queer-friendly spot where the focus is squarely on the music, with a serious rota of techno DJs and parties. Entry is usually free (you may be asked to buy a drink), and the crowd is a knowing mix of techno heads and in-the-know locals.
Local tip: Nothing happens early — turn up around 3am if you want it at full tilt. There is no sign, so trust the address and the sound, and go with the flow once you are in.
