Brettos

Brettos is a distillery and bar at Kydathinaion 41 in the Plaka district of Athens, founded in 1909 by Michael Brettos and generally described as the oldest distillery in the city. It occupies the ground floor of an older Athenian building and keeps much of its original character, including antique wooden barrels and an early hand-operated ouzo still used by its founder. Its most recognisable feature is the back wall, stacked floor to ceiling with backlit bottles in a spectrum of colours. The bar produces its own ouzo and brandy on the premises and offers more than thirty flavoured liqueurs alongside Greek wines and beers, served at the counter or at small tables on the pedestrianised street outside. It trades daily from around 10:00 to 02:00 at moderate prices by the glass, and takes cash or card. Syntagma and Acropoli stations are each roughly ten minutes away through Plaka's lanes.
