Cantina Social

Cantina Social is a bar in a courtyard reached through an unmarked passage off Leokoriou street in Psyrri, central Athens, near the junction with Miaouli. The premises began as a traditional Greek cafe-bar serving the district's antique dealers and workmen; the present owner converted it into a bar in the mid-2000s but kept the original cafe-bar signage rather than adding new branding, which is why there is nothing identifying it from the street. By day the courtyard still functions as an informal meeting point for local traders; after dark it operates as a bar with resident and guest DJs playing indie, disco and alternative music, and it continues to host club nights and touring sets. The space is plainly furnished and no dress code is enforced. It sits within walking distance of Monastiraki metro station on lines 1 and 3, in a part of Psyrri dense with bars, tavernas and antique shops. Trading is concentrated in the evening and night rather than the daytime.
