3 Days in Berlin: The Perfect First-Timer’s Itinerary

The short version: Three days is perfect for a first visit to Berlin. Day one for history and Museum Island, day two for the Wall and Kreuzberg’s food, day three for parks, street art and a Spree cruise. Here is exactly how to do it.

Day 1: Icons and Museum Island

Start at the Brandenburg Gate and the moving Holocaust Memorial, then book ahead for the Reichstag dome. Spend the afternoon on Museum Island and climb the TV Tower at dusk. Dinner at historic Zur Letzten Instanz.

Day 2: The Wall and Kreuzberg

Walk the East Side Gallery, see Checkpoint Charlie and dig deeper on a Berlin Wall tour. Graze through Markthalle Neun and grab the city’s best doner at Mustafa’s or a currywurst at Curry 36.

Day 3: Parks and street art

On a Sunday, the Mauerpark flea market and karaoke are unmissable; any day, the vast Tempelhofer Feld is pure Berlin. Take an alternative street-art tour and end with a Spree river cruise.

Frequently asked questions

Is 3 days enough for Berlin?

Yes. Three days covers Berlin’s history, Museum Island, the Wall and its food and nightlife at a good pace. A fourth day lets you add Potsdam.

Is Berlin walkable?

The centre is walkable, but Berlin is large and spread out. The U-Bahn, S-Bahn and trams are excellent and cheap for hopping between districts.

What is the best time to visit Berlin?

May to September brings warm weather, outdoor beer gardens and long days. Berlin is lively year-round, with a moody charm in winter.

Is Berlin expensive?

Berlin is more affordable than many Western European capitals, especially for food, drinks and nightlife, though hotel prices rise around major events.
