Dating to 1634, Boston Common is the oldest public park in the United States and the green heart of the city, once a colonial cow pasture and militia training ground. Today it is a fine place to stroll, people-watch or sprawl on the grass, with the golden-domed State House rising above. Enter from Park Street, skate or splash at the Frog Pond in season, and use it as the launch point for the Freedom Trail.
