Goupil le Fol

Goupil le Fol is a bar at Rue de la Violette 22, close to the Grand Place in central Brussels, established in 1969. It occupies a multi-storey former townhouse, with several small rooms connected by staircases and decorated with old photographs, curios and assorted objects accumulated over decades. Its speciality is fruit and spice-infused wines, made in flavours including cherry, raspberry and cassis and various nut liqueurs, served alongside cocktails and Belgian beers. French chanson plays throughout, and seating is on well-worn sofas and armchairs. The bar does not take reservations. Ownership passed to new management in 2016 and 2017 after the founder retired, and it has continued in the same style since. It opens daily from 16:00 to 02:00. The nearest transport is Brussels-Central railway station, with the Grand Place and Bourse tram and bus stops both a short walk away.
