Marche du Midi

The Marche du Midi is a Sunday morning market held around Brussels-Midi station, spreading along the surrounding streets at the boundary of the Saint-Gilles and Anderlecht municipalities. It is regularly cited as one of the largest open-air markets in Europe, extending for more than a kilometre of stalls. Trading runs from around 6am until between 1pm and 2pm, with stallholders setting up before dawn and the market winding down gradually rather than at a fixed hour. Stalls sell fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, fish, flowers, plants, clothing, household goods, bicycles and beauty products, with a strong presence of North African and Maghrebi grocers and halal butchers reflecting the surrounding population, alongside produce from across the Mediterranean. Browsing is free and prices are set by individual stallholders. The market is reached directly from Brussels-Midi station, served by national and international trains, Metro Line 6, tram 82 and bus 27. It runs year-round, weather permitting.
