Táskarádió Eszpresszó was one of downtown Budapest's most charming oddities — a retro espresso bar and café crammed with memorabilia from the 1960s, 70s and 80s. Part coffee house, part museum of socialist-era curios, it was stuffed with old toys, tin robots, funny posters and Soviet-made gadgets, and served cheap retro dishes to a devoted, arty crowd, with jazz concerts and retro parties by night.
It sat on Papnövelde utca in the 5th district, near Egyetem tér. The café has since closed its doors, but the surrounding downtown streets are full of atmospheric ruin bars, coffee houses and late-night spots to pick up the slack.
