Why locals love it
San Antonio de Areco, a small town situated 1.5-2 hours drive outside of the captial, is Argentina personified: gauchos; leather goods, 'mate' by the river and parillas on every corner. It's a perfect day trip or even better, to stay a few nights and really soak up the laid back atmosphere and extremely delicious (and much cheaper) food.
Why you should visit it
As beautiful and exciting as Buenos Aires is, there's a lot more to Argentina that is to be discovered and if you're looking to get a taste of the gaucho lifestyle then you must take a visit to San Antonio... Or even go one step further and stay at a nearby Estancia (there are many not far from San Antonio) and experience life in 'el campo'.
