Chennai Lighthouse stands directly on Marina Beach and is one of the few lighthouses in India built inside a city rather than on a remote headland. A lift takes visitors up for a panoramic view over the beach and the Bay of Bengal, and it still functions as a working navigational light alongside its role as a ticketed viewpoint.
Local tip: Late afternoon gives the best light for the view before sunset crowds build up on the beach below.
