Rayar's Mess is a tiny, roughly sixteen-seat vegetarian breakfast spot in Mylapore, still run by the descendants of the family that founded it and moved it to its current Arundale Street site in 1992. Vada, uttappam and pongal come out on banana leaves in a room barely big enough to turn around in.
Local tip: Arrive early; seats turn over fast but there is no waiting area worth speaking of.
