Tina Beretta has been baking in Como's walled centre for generations, and it still pulls a steady stream of locals in for the ritual aperitivo hour. The counter groans under trays of fresh focaccia, savoury tarts and the bakery's well-known 'Nuvola' plum cake, all made on site.
Grab a seat at one of the outdoor tables on Via Rusconi and watch the evening passeggiata go by while you work through a slice of pizza or a proper Italian pastry.
Local tip: Go for the aperitivo rather than a full meal. The spread of savoury bites that comes with a spritz is the best-value way to try a bit of everything, and it is popular enough that arriving right at opening avoids the queue.
