Donkey Republic

Donkey Republic is a dockless bike-share scheme operating across Copenhagen, recognisable by its orange bicycles. Bikes are located and unlocked through a smartphone app: the rider finds an available bike on the in-app map, taps to release the frame-mounted lock, and returns it to or near one of the scheme's designated hubs at the end of the ride. Both pedal and electric bikes are available depending on location. Pricing works on three bases: pay per ride, charged by time used; day or multi-day passes giving unlimited rides within a fixed period; and monthly membership including a daily allowance of free minutes with reduced rates thereafter. Current rates are set in the app and vary, so checking before committing is worthwhile. The company was founded in Denmark and operates in numerous other European cities, so the same app works elsewhere. No fixed docking stations are needed and the operating zone covers the city centre and much of the surrounding area.
