As the Casino Cabaret in the once notorious Five Points district, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Benny Goodman played here. Later Ray Charles, B.B. King, Ike and Tina Turner also graced the stage. These days the neighborhood cleaned up its act a bit, and though still far from the wealthiest part of town, it isn't necessarily dangerous.
In 2010 new owners took over, renamed the venue Cervantes, and made some technical improvements. The music hosted has shifted from jazz towards dubstep, electronica, hip-hop acts, DJs, bluegrass and jam bands. Cervantes consists of two venues, the larger 'masterpiece ballroom' and the smaller 'otherside' just next door.
