In 1996, MCA Denver was founded as the city's first space dedicated to contemporary art. Since that time, artists as internationally famous as Damien Hirst have exhibited here. The cutting-edge works on display were a welcome breath of fresh air from the landscape-heavy period paintings that dominated the scene prior.
Originally occupying a renovated fish market, the museum has majorly upgraded in 2007 to an environmentally sustainable facility designed by the acclaimed architect David Adjaye. Skylights and expansive windows accomplish the architect's goal of reducing seperation between the interior galleries and exterior spaces of the city.
Admission is always free for teens and kids, and $5 for college students. Adult admission is $8, or $5 after 5 pm.
