In warm weather, you can dine outside (if you book) and people-watch in piazza Santo Spirito, chock-full of characters. Food is fresh and inexpensive, and the menu is varied enough for a group with wide-ranging tastes, but simple enough that it doesn't overwhelm. Even easy dishes like spaghetti alla chitarra with tomatoes are still succulent.
Osteria Santo Spirito is a fabulous place to stop when hunger hits and you realize you haven't made dinner reservations—but you want something more special than a sandwich. The prices are some of the fairest in the city center, considering the generous portion sizes. Though it can feel slightly touristy, it's most definitely not a "trap."
Try the gnocchi made with truffles for a truly decadent dish—order the full-size portion only if you dare!
