The Roemerberg is the picture-book heart of Frankfurt, a cobbled square framed by the gabled Roemer city hall and a row of half-timbered houses rebuilt after the war. It has been the civic stage of the city for centuries and hosts markets and festivals through the year. It is free to wander and always lively. Come early to photograph the timbered facades without the crowds, and step into the adjoining New Old Town lanes.
