On the corner of Hotel and Nuuanu in Chinatown, Fete is run by Robynne Maii, who in 2022 became the first Native Hawaiian woman to win a James Beard Award for Best Chef in the Northwest and Pacific. The kitchen describes its approach as one part Hawaii, one part Brooklyn: a brasserie menu of steaks, pasta and vegetables built on island produce, with a burger that has its own following at lunch. The room occupies a restored early-1900s commercial building of brick and tile with tall windows onto the street. It opens for lunch and dinner Monday to Saturday, and dinner only on Sundays. Chinatown is at its busiest on First Friday, when the galleries along Nuuanu Avenue open late; evening parking is easiest in the municipal structures nearby.
