The historically valuable Sámi farm in the Välimaa was built in 1858 along the Teno River, but the old foundations of the castle tell that the area was inhabited long before this. The space is a unique historical attraction. It tells its visitors about life in the barren nature of the northernmost extreme of Finland.
The farm has been inhabited until the early 1970's. The Mediterranean Sámi farm is always open. The buildings are locked, but the area is free to explore. The easiest way to get acquainted is during the snow-free time. About 300 meters from the farm there is a break spread, in summer sheep are kept on the farm.
