Imtiaz is a Pakistani retail chain founded in 1955 by Imtiaz Abbasi, who opened a small shop in Bahadurabad, Karachi, on the principle of selling cheaply in volume. It has grown into one of the country's largest retail groups and trades in three formats: Imtiaz Mega hypermarkets, standard Imtiaz Super Market branches and smaller Imtiaz Xpress convenience outlets. The chain runs around 33 stores across 14 cities, among them Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Quetta and Faisalabad. Karachi holds the largest concentration of branches, spread across neighbourhoods including Bahadurabad, Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Defence and Malir. Stores carry groceries, fresh produce, household goods, clothing, electronics and health and beauty products at a scale comparable to the international chains also operating in Pakistan. For visitors the larger Mega branches carry the widest range and are useful for local snacks, spices and gifts, while Xpress outlets suit quick purchases. Most branches open from morning until late evening, though hours vary by location and format, and prices generally sit below those of competing international supermarkets.
