St. Michael's Church, located on the banks of the Kemijoki River in Keminmaa. The Church is one of the oldest churches in Finland. Completed in 1553, the church was originally a Catholic church, reminiscent of the paintings on the roof and walls of the church, as well as statues of saints adorning the walls.
After the church became Lutheran, the decorations in the church were removed and the murals were covered. There are at least 40 well-preserved bodies under the church floor, the most famous of which is Pastor Nikolaus Rungius (1560-1629). There are also plenty of graves from different eras in the churchyard.
