A serene, forest-ringed reservoir high in the Racha mountains — Georgia’s beautiful, little-visited northwest. Built in the 1950s at around 1,100m, Shaori sits below the Nakerala ridge and makes a lovely warm-weather escape: calm water for swimming and boating, trout and whitefish for anglers, and berry- and mushroom-picking in the surrounding pines. It’s at its most magical in autumn, when the blue water mirrors the golds and reds of the forest.
