The oldest freestanding bar in Las Vegas, licensed in 1952 and named for the period when drinkers climbed onto the roof to watch nuclear tests at the Nevada Proving Ground. It stood closed for several years before reopening in 2012, retaining the original neon sign, the terrazzo and much of the interior fabric. The bar keeps a long draught list weighted towards American craft brewing, a decent whiskey selection and a kitchen next door. Its position at the eastern end of Fremont Street, well past the covered Experience, puts it among low-rise blocks where downtown still looks like a working neighbourhood. The clientele mixes locals, bar staff and visitors who have walked out of the casino core. The patio is the better seat in cooler months.
